Day 164

New Year's Eve at Times Square in New York City. They say it's one of those things you have to try at least once in your lifetime, so it being my first New Year's in NYC, I figured it'd make sense to try it out this year.

What I wasn't expecting was the massive line to get into Times Square as early as when I got there at 1PM. Actually, I was expecting that, what I didn't expect was that after waiting in line for 3 hours, they'd tell us there was no more room at Times Square and that we'd have to go 10 blocks further away.Again, this is something I expected, so I wasn't entirely surprised. That's why I mentally prepared myself for what I knew would be one of the most agonizing next 8 hours of my life. For those of you unfamiliar with Times Square New Year's Eve protocol, revelers are first off herded into these "pens" that the PD has set up. Besides the fact that these "pens" are filled to the capacity where you can't take one step without landing on someone else, you also can't bring any food or drinks and you can't leave, even to use the bathroom.

Potentially, you could be standing out there, hungry, thirsty, and full of piss for 9 hours straight.
...and they even had the nerve to rub in your face how much time was left to go before the countdown:

At the end of it all, here's what you're rewarded with, a chance to see this national tradition only seen on televisions throughout the rest of the country, on a slightly larger television screen, still a few miles away, except sober, hungry, and incredibly ticked off:
But at least now I can say I've done it.

Day 163

Apparently I'm the national campaign director at Freedom To Marry (look near the bottom of the first column)

Day 162

As quickly as they came up, they come down:

Day 159

It's tradition that my family take the kids who are turning 21 to Reno. My sister is the newest member to the club, so naturally, we obliged:

Day 154

It was my sister's 21st, yet I was the one with the party foul:

12/17/11

Day 150

Apparently iPad stations at airports are a thing now.

12/13/11

Day 146

Free food at Google NYC. As a self-diagnosed klepto, score.

12/11/11

Day 144

Funny, I'm not usually the one in front of the camera.

I'll elaborate more on this once there's a finished product.

12/10/11

Day 143

During the holidays, the New York City subway runs a set of 8 cars built between 1930 & 1940 on Saturdays between the 2nd Avenue and Queens Plaza:

In other words, these are some old ass trains:

12/8/11

Day 141

Open bar? Hundreds of people my age? Club setting?
My holiday parties are VERY different nowadays.

12/6/11

Day 139

Finally added swag to my cubicle!
I've still got a long way to catch up with the rest of my coworkers, however...
