Day 164

New Year's Eve at Times Square in New York City. They say it's one of those things you have to try at least once in your lifetime, so it being my first New Year's in NYC, I figured it'd make sense to try it out this year.

What I wasn't expecting was the massive line to get into Times Square as early as when I got there at 1PM. Actually, I was expecting that, what I didn't expect was that after waiting in line for 3 hours, they'd tell us there was no more room at Times Square and that we'd have to go 10 blocks further away.Again, this is something I expected, so I wasn't entirely surprised. That's why I mentally prepared myself for what I knew would be one of the most agonizing next 8 hours of my life. For those of you unfamiliar with Times Square New Year's Eve protocol, revelers are first off herded into these "pens" that the PD has set up. Besides the fact that these "pens" are filled to the capacity where you can't take one step without landing on someone else, you also can't bring any food or drinks and you can't leave, even to use the bathroom.

Potentially, you could be standing out there, hungry, thirsty, and full of piss for 9 hours straight.
...and they even had the nerve to rub in your face how much time was left to go before the countdown:

At the end of it all, here's what you're rewarded with, a chance to see this national tradition only seen on televisions throughout the rest of the country, on a slightly larger television screen, still a few miles away, except sober, hungry, and incredibly ticked off:
But at least now I can say I've done it.
