What do you think when you hear the phrase "French soul food?" If you thought beignets filled with crawfish, you're crazy. They'd never do a thing like that.

Or did they?
We ordered the variety beignet plate, which entailed the following (from the right): plain, granny smith, chocolate, and finally, with the cajun seasoning on top, crawfish. Strange as a savory filling in what is normally considered a "French donut," sounds, it ended up being really tasty.

This being a brunch place, our dishes were egg and grits heavy. Here is what's called the Hangtown Fry: Crispy oyster, bacon and scallion scramble

Shrimp & Grits - Sautéed shrimp, cheddar grits, spicy tomato-bacon gravy:
