Mashups tend to flirt on a thin line that separates "downright amazing" (see this) to "what the hell were they thinking??" (see that). I've taken a fancy to this one, but some youtube commenters seem to disagree with me.

Your thoughts?

  1. i like the mashup, actually. it's thinking well outside of the box [who the hell thinks of mashing-up velvet underground and motown?], and slowing down the vocal sample gives it a hypnotic vibe, like the velvet underground song used ["venus in furs" is one of my favorite songs by them].

  2. that was my thought exactly too. one would've never thought to mix the two together.

I think most people's gripes about this mashup is how Marvin Gaye's vocals were slowed down. as was told to me, part of why they love "ain't no mountain high enough" is because it's so upbeat. this really changes the feel of it. I still like it though.

the same could be said of a perfect circle's rendition of "imagine," an unappreciated and underrated rendition, in my opinion.
