Day 98: only in Daly City...

...would the Filipino cd section in the library be larger than opera, country, and jazz/blues.

Maybe it's nothing new to some people, but seriously, I'm not used to living around so many people who are the same race as me. I'd even say it's slightly unnerving.

Eh.

  1. I felt the same way when I was in Mira Mesa for a couple months. Sooo many Filipinos, they're different from LA Filipinos I think because in Mira Mesa, Filipinos here retain their culture and their language. I think it's because there's so many of them in one spot, they just can. When I was staying in Mira Mesa, families were shocked that my parents never spoke to me in Tagalog.

  2. I think most Filipinos who live in areas with high concentrations retain the culture and the language, thanks to the high amount of Filipino grocers, restaurants, cultural centers, people in general, etc etc. In all honesty, it's kinda intimidating living around so many Filipino Filipinos, if you know what I mean.

I never grew up with that, and unfortunately, I'll admit there's a disconnect between me and "my" culture.

You should read up on my previous post how I'm Filipino, but then again, not: http://markwidaq.blogspot.com/2009/07/laban.html
